Lazy Web: Problems installing ntfs-3g under Macports

As a part of ongoing efforts to enable Audrey to move back and forth between various computing platforms at home, uni, and at a lab in Germany, I am trying to install the macports package for ntfs-3g which would allow her to read/write a 938 Gig portable hard disk formatted by Win XP Pro on her laptop.

When I try to install the ‘ntfs-3g’ package I’m getting this error message and am unsure what to do… It has simply been too long since I have played with ‘build’ and it’s variants and my brain is mush.

Any hints / help would be appreciated. Snark will be cheerfully ignored and yes, I have RTFMed (see ‘brain is mush’ above).

OSX 10.4.11 (PowerPC) with the Developer package, X-Tools, and macports installed. All locations are system defaults. For instance,
PATH=/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin so things *should* be OK.

Thanks. Comment or emails are fine.

below is the terminal output
