It is also Midsummer, the Summer Solstice, for those that mark such things, and

By Shire Reckoning: it should be noted that today is:

Topeka, Tornadoes, and 1966

Coming up tomorrow on June 8, is the 44th anniversary of the Topeka Tornado which, as an 11 year old resident of eastern Kansas about 35 miles south of there, I remember vividly.

It also catapulted WIBW weatherman Bill Curtis into national attention as he urged locals, “For God’s Sake, Take Cover!!!

The weather cell did quite a bit of property damage in my hometown of Osage City, KS, but minor compared to the Capital City.

Why am I remembering this? I have no idea, except I’m thinking about ‘home’ a lot lately.
