Nightline — Surfing and Autism: Floating on Glory

Here is a link to the ABC Nightline story that aired late last night about Surfers Healing. Ian was one of the kids featured in this story.

Nightline really did a great job, but the real story is the Paskowitz family and the wonderful folks that make Surfers Healing work and do such fantastic things.

When do we change our clocks back for Standard Time?

Filed under: General, Information — Hal @ 1:14 pm

Luckily being off at the return to Standard Time only means you’re wondering where everyone else is because you are an hour early…

Daylight Saving Time – When do we change our clocks?

Beginning in 2007, most of the United States begins Daylight Saving Time at 2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday in March and reverts to standard time on the first Sunday in November. In the U.S., each time zone switches at a different time.

In the European Union, Summer Time begins and ends at 1:00 a.m. Universal Time (Greenwich Mean Time). It begins the last Sunday in March and ends the last Sunday in October. In the EU, all time zones change at the same moment.

TV Boy?

Filed under: Family, Ian, Personal, TV, autism/Asperger's — Hal @ 3:36 pm

This past August, Ian took part in a Surf Camp for Autistic Kids in San Diego, CA run by Surfers Healing. ABC TV’s Nightline show had a crew there to cover the event. Ian is one of the children that will be featured in the episode which airs on Monday night 10/29. Unless there is ‘breaking news’ or something.

So, Are They Married Or Not?

Filed under: Las Vegas Local — Hal @ 10:38 am

OK, this is just one of the problems when things like marriage ceremonies become a local industry.

Were they really married? Couples have cause to doubt [LV Sun]

As far as Kimberly Shirak of Ypsilanti, Mich., is concerned, she and her husband of six months are married – really, truly, legally married.

And to prove it, she’s got a marriage certificate from Las Vegas’ Garden of Love, photos of family members and an Elvis impersonator, and the signature of an official witness.

Problem is, the witness – the chapel’s co-owner – was about 1,000 miles away at the time of the April 7 nuptials, watching an Ultimate Fighting Championship match in Texas.

So, back to the big question: Does that mean Shirak is or isn’t married?

The answer – probably – is as unpredictable and uncertain as love itself. And so the advice that officials have for the Shiraks and 18 other couples married at the Garden of Love that day is that they might want to get married again, just to be on the safe side.

Just to reassure, those of you I performed marriages for, you are still married. Whether you still like that or not. ;-)

According to Archbishop Ussher…

Filed under: Evolution, Non Compos Mentis, Religion, Science — Tags: , — Hal @ 12:47 pm

As we noted last year:

In 1650, the Irish Archbishop, James Ussher, published his computations that the world was created on Sunday, October 23rd, 4004 B.C., beginning at sunset of the 22nd. [Errors in quoting Bishop Ussher]

So this is the big 6010th birthday! Woo Hoo! (note: I miscalculated last year because I apparently was not paying sufficient attention. The equation would not be 4004+2007. Rather it would be 4004+2007-1 because there is no year 0 [zero].) Pesky Gregorian calendar…
