This caught my eye at Salon this morning…
Various Items Glenn Greenwald’s Unclaimed Territory [Salon.com]
Speaking of the ability of Bush followers to deny reality, this weekend’s proclamation from John Hinderaker might have earned a place in the already crowded Hinderaker pantheon of jaw-droppingly delusional tributes to the Leader’s Greatness — alongside his prior claims that Bush is a “man of extraordinary vision and brilliance approaching to genius,” that we have “an amazing record of progress” in Iraq, and that George Bush is “our Churchill … taking a firm stand against the great evil of our time.” This weekend Hinderaker said:
The truth is that the Bush administration has been extraordinarily scandal-free. Not a single instance of corruption has been unearthed.
“Extraordinarily scandal-free.” “Not a single instance of corruption.”
and then it just happened…

Not that anyone is hanging breathlessly, but Ian’s first tooth was delivered to the Tooth Fairy on Friday the 27th of April.

That would be the lower right incisor, the picture is not the sharpest…
What a good looking kid.
Mstislav Rostropovich, Cellist and Conductor, Dies [New York Times]
Mstislav Rostropovich, a cellist and conductor who was renowned not only as one of the great instrumentalists of the 20th century, but also as an outspoken champion of artistic freedom in Russia during the final decades of the Cold War, died in Moscow today. He was 80.
He was a giant of the arts and freedom of expression. Shostakovich wrote the Cello Concertos for Rostropovich. Whew… (via Garret)
Mark at wood s lot celebrates a birthday. Many more, my friend.
Those of you who have been with us for the long haul may be interested to know that we are beginning the secondary teething process. I was awakened this morning by a very excited 5½ year old. “DaddyDaddyDaddy! Daddy! I have a loose tooth! LOOK!” And bade me do so. Of course, it was impossible not to as his mouth was very close to my face.
“Oh Sweetie, you’re being a space invader! Hey Ian, you’re getting to be such a big boy! You’re growing up!” (Which was not without a slight emotional tightening of my throat. That means we’re all that much older, too.)
Immediately he clutched me and wiggled in faux fright, “Oh, I scared! I don’ wanna grow up! I scared!” Then we both laughed. “I’m silly!” “Yes you are.” And we continued to laugh.
Then he wanted me to feel the wiggling tooth and I reassured him that the tooth fairy does make house calls.
He is getting to be such a big boy. Sigh…
