a must read “These Beltway media figures are not only completely vapid, shallow, and devoid of any objective other than to defend government leaders, but they are completely out of touch with the “Americans” whom they constantly invoke …”

Warren Zevon’s The Envoy on March 27
On May 27, a classic (IMNSHO) album will be released for the first time on compact disc.
I am ecstatic, this is the last of Warren’s pre-CD works to make the transition, thus my completest compulsions can be laid to rest. On this issue at least. I’ve been listening to some LP rips I got off one of the internets back when the world was young.
The reflective 1982 masterpiece Zevon once described as “The Excitable Boy Grows Up,” The Envoy makes its CD debut with this release. Highlights include the title track, the moving “Never Too Late For Love,” “The Hula Hula Boys,” and “The Overdraft,” a co-write with novelist Thomas McGuane featuring a ripping Lindsey Buckingham solo. Four previously unreleased tracks include outtakes of “Word Of Mouth” and “Wild Thing,” and the romantically skewed gem “Let Nothing Come Between You.” Liner notes by Rolling Stone editor David Wild.
The late Warren Zevon is one of rock’s most unique and idiosyncratic artists—as well as one of its most cerebral. Blending intellect, passion, biting wit, cinematic storytelling flair, and unflinching observations, Zevon’s body of work is a too-often-overlooked treasure trove of singer-songwriter brilliance. Before emerging as a solo artist out of the Los Angeles music scene with an acclaimed Jackson Browne-produced debut in 1976, Zevon’s eclectic resume included stints in the duo Lyme & Cybelle and as the Everly Brothers’ pianist. [Rhino Records]
Man, I can’t believe they didn’t even mention the cut Ain’t That Pretty At All, on this album and one of Warren’s finest songs.

Third Time, Last Time?
We went to see The Wiggles last night with Ian. After talking about it, we decided to go ahead and go, even though their [The Wiggles] luster has dimmed a bit at now that he is 5½. You may recall that Ian has been a Wiggle for Halloween and that we have gone to see them before.

Last time he was so excited he nearly turned himself inside out, this time not quite so much. I mean, he was happy and sang and clapped, but he didn’t dance for the whole hour and not want or protest mightily when it was to leave. He was even very concerned why Greg was not there. Once or twice I caught him looking at me to see what I was doing. I was not entirely sure that he was not humoring me by the end.

My little boy is growing up and moving on to rockets, Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, feature length kid stuff and is reading on his own. Such is the way of things and I would not have it any other way. My only regret is that this means I’m getting older.
There was a young man immediately behind us who was about 2½ to 3 years old, about Ian’s age last time. It was fun to see him bounce around. His energy was palpable and his parents were have a great time with him. Enjoy every moment [with your kids], they [grow up and] pass on to other things sooner than you think.
