AG Ashcroft Comments #

I can’t believe it. I saw this astonishing clip of Ashcroft basically giving the Senate Judiciary Committee the finger over the release of details concerning the Torture Memo followed up by Senator Biden’s pithy response along the lines of [paraphrase from memory] “that’s why we sign these treaties. So when our troops are captured they’re not tortured.” I can’t find any mention of Ashcroft’s testimony today, much less quotes, on ‘major’ news sites.

Or, perhaps more accurately, I continue to not be surprised at anything anymore. What is the fun in being cynical if reality consistently trumps you…?

OSX Security Update 2004-06-07 #

Apple releases an update for both 10.3.4 and 10.2.8, available via Software Update. John Gruber has the skinny on how the various publicized URI and  Launch Services-related vulnerabilities have been closed.

I think I will go do that now…

Whoa! Very cool items from TheMothership

Data Dump… #

After this long post drought, I suppose I should try to mention some things that have gone through this brain of mine in the last little bit.

I am still trying to wrap my head around Gwen Ifill’s comment on Washington Week a week ago last Friday that Al Gore’s speech represented ‘the view from the far left.’ Gore is the ‘far left’ to a PBS moderator? I must not even be in the same space-time…

Without revealing any spoilers, I have to say I agree with Michelle Erica Green who reviewed the season 3 finale of Enterprise for Trek Nation.

"If there were any doubts about the worthiness of Enterprise to bear the name Star Trek, Rick Berman and Brannon Braga put them to rest with "Zero Hour", which lands the prequel firmly in classic Trek tradition…"

Hee! Trek is ever immune to Godwin’s Law.

It has been unseasonably warm (> 108°F) here (and elsewhere) in the Desert West. I’m just not ready for yet…

Ian got his first ’summer’ haircut this weekend. We didn’t do the super short cut last year, but he spends so much time outside (no, not in the middle of the day) that he needs all the help he can get. He may be playing in the shade, but it is still hot shade. He really looks like he is much older than he is. Probably because of his size…

Happy 29th to David and Diane!

That’s it for now. I am (nominally) at work after all…
